As part of our ongoing Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) advocacy efforts, we are happy to share that significant changes have been announced.

From 1 November 2021, new items are available for eligible allied health practitioners (physiotherapists are eligible for all items) participating in multidisciplinary case conferences with medical practitioners.

The new items apply to non-admitted patients under the care of an eligible allied health practitioner for:

Member alert – you must apply for medical device transition by 25 August 2021

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) currently regulates therapeutic products, including personalised medical devices. Devices relevant to allied health include hand splints, orthoses and prostheses, cervical spine collars, moulds used to anchor hearing aids, and compression garments.

The APA has collaborated with the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) to develop a Digital Health Audit to better understand the digital habits of physiotherapists.
