One in three women in Australia view their birth as traumatic, with an estimated 100,000 people impacted by both physical and psychological birth-related trauma each year.
The Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) has welcomed the Bridging the Gender Pain Gap report and commended the Allan Government for its historic Inquiry into Women’s Pain, informed by more than 13,000 women, girls and carers who shared their lived experience of dismissal, delayed diagnosis and barriers to care.

The Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) welcomes this week’s report from the Senate Community Affairs References Committee on Aged Care Service Delivery. The report provides significant recommendations on how to improve the quality and availability of care for older Australians.
The APA is particularly pleased by the inclusion of several recommendations, including:
Tens of thousands of Australians have joined a growing movement to oppose recent changes to National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) pricing, with a community petition officially tabled in Parliament today by Senator Jordon Steele-John.
Last week, The Australian obtained and released insensitive Freedom of Information (FOI) documents stating that the NDIA, despite extensive and collective pressure from disability advocates, is urging the government to stay firm on the 1 July funding cuts.
The APA is deeply concerned to see the NDIA pursuing unrealistic and excessive budget goals based on flawed data and at the expense of participants’ lives, despite united advocacy and desperate calls for consultation from those most affected.
The NSW government announced a menopause virtual health hub last week which will enable women to access flexible, complex care from highly trained professionals such as physiotherapists.
The Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) is thrilled to see investment in the complex care required to manage women's health conditions and calls on the rest of Australia to follow suit.
The Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) is calling on all political parties to put health reform at the center of their election commitments, following a recent vote of no confidence in the current Tasmanian Government only a year into its term. This weekend’s election offers more than a change of leadership. It is a crucial opportunity to restore public trust and deliver real improvements to the health and lives of Tasmanians.
