Older people represent an increasing proportion of Australia's population, with unique health and wellbeing needs. Physiotherapists play a critical role in supporting older Australians to stay active, independent and engaged—across private practice, hospitals, rehabilitation, community and residential aged care settings.
The Gerontology group connects physiotherapists dedicated to improving health outcomes for older people. Members receive the latest policy updates, evidence-based resources and access to a strong, supportive professional network.
Through PhysioHub, members can collaborate online—sharing insights, asking questions, and discussing research, advocacy and clinical care with colleagues across the country.
Member benefits include:
- regular updates with the latest research, clinical information and event news
- discounts on all professional development courses and events organised by the Gerontology group
- free access to lectures and webinars hosted by the group

- opportunities to engage in areas of interest such as clinical practice, academia, research or policy

About the group
Members of the Gerontology group are passionate about supporting older Australians to achieve their health and wellbeing goals at every stage of ageing. The group advocates for high-quality, sustainable healthcare that promotes function, independence and quality of life.
The group actively contributes to national policy and advocacy efforts, including:
- Residential Aged Care Funding Reform
- The Single Quality Framework
- Aged Care Legislative Review
- Aged Care Workforce Strategy Taskforce
- inquiries into the quality of care in residential aged care facilities
- access to assistive technology for older Australians.
Professional development is central to the group's mission. Level 1 and Level 2 gerontology courses help members progress along the titling and specialisation pathway, while regular lectures and joint courses with other APA national groups support continuous learning across disciplines.
There are many opportunities to contribute—whether by joining a committee, shaping professional development programs, or engaging in discussion through PhysioHub.
